Magnitude 4.2 earthquake shakes northern Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- A magnitude 4.2 earthquake shook the northern Dominican Republic around 8:17 p.m. on Tuesday, with the epicenter located 11 kilometers east-southeast of Altamira, Puerto Plata, near Santiago de los Caballeros. The tremor, felt throughout the Cibao region, prompted alarm among residents but caused no reported damage or injuries, according to the Civil Defense.
Authorities in Santiago are working with specialized technical teams to verify the quake’s magnitude, depth (10 km), and coordinates (19.630, -70.740). Alex Torres, provincial deputy director of Civil Defense, advised the public to stay calm and rely solely on information from official sources.
