Fire Contained at MERCA Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- A fire broke out in one of the warehouses at MERCA Santo Domingo, located in Pedro Brand, Santo Domingo province. The National Emergency and Security System 911 quickly coordinated the response after receiving an alert through the emergency line.

Emergency protocols were activated, and multiple units were dispatched to the scene, including 21 fire brigades from various municipalities, drone teams, ambulances, National Police, and traffic officers. Additionally, water tanker trucks from the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation were brought in to help control the blaze.

While no injuries have been reported, several businesses within the facility were affected. The situation remains under control as emergency teams continue efforts to fully extinguish the fire. The 911 System commended the firefighters’ dedication in managing the incident.

Well, making something good out of something tragic… is the fire was confined to one building. The big question is why tanker trucks were dispatched? The only reasonable answer is there was no water available at Merca. A facility that size has to have water to help keep its products and workers sanitary and to provide fire protection.
