Deputies propose National Inclusive Tourism Program

Santo Domingo.- The Inclusion and Disability Roundtable of the Dominican Republic’s Chamber of Deputies has introduced a resolution urging President Luis Abinader to direct the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) to establish a National Inclusive Tourism Program. The goal is to ensure full accessibility for people with disabilities at all tourist destinations across the country.

The proposed program includes key actions such as adapting infrastructure, training tourism staff in inclusive practices, providing accessible signage, and applying universal accessibility standards. Legislators emphasized that this initiative would not only uphold human rights but also broaden the national tourism market by welcoming families who currently face barriers to travel.

Representative Mirna López stressed that inclusive tourism aligns with both social development and economic opportunity. Over 50 legislators from various political parties are backing the proposal, reaffirming their commitment to building a more equitable and inclusive Dominican Republic.
