Government expands new police patrol model to Santiago

Santiago de los Caballeros.- The Dominican government launched the New Police Service Model (NMSP) in Santiago, led by Vice President Raquel Peña, as part of a broader strategy to enhance citizen security and strengthen community ties. This initiative forms a key component of the ongoing transformation of the National Police, emphasizing crime prevention, professional service, and closer public interaction.

The model is designed to implement smarter and more coordinated patrols, incorporating technology, accountability, and respect for the public. Minister Raful emphasized the importance of gradually building sustainable reforms to bring police services closer to communities and monitor their effectiveness. The initial deployment includes 230 officers, specialized personnel, vehicles, and a domestic violence unit, covering a 5.56 square kilometer area and benefiting over 33,000 residents. This effort underscores the government’s dedication to transforming the National Police through a territorial, community-based approach.
