Shooting at university UASD leaves several injured, including security officer
Santo Domingo.- Several people were injured, including a member of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) security team, after a shooting incident erupted Thursday afternoon on the university’s main campus.
According to witnesses, the violence began when an armed man entered the campus carrying a 12-gauge shotgun. When confronted by university security officers, he opened fire, injuring at least two guards before fleeing the scene. The suspect was later captured by security personnel at a nearby store and turned over to university authorities.
The shooting caused widespread panic and chaos among students, faculty, and staff. A large contingent of National Police officers responded to the scene but remained outside the campus perimeter, as police access to UASD grounds is restricted under university autonomy regulations.
