National Plant Festival opens at Botanical Garden

Santo Domingo.- The Dr. Rafael M. Moscoso National Botanical Garden (JBN) inaugurated the 19th edition of its National Plant and Flower Festival, celebrating the country’s rich botanical diversity and promoting environmental awareness. The festival, running until Saturday the 19th, features educational, cultural, and family activities, alongside the sale of ornamental plants from 106 participating companies, including international exhibitors from Ecuador, Puerto Rico, and Canada.
Visitors flocked to the Botanical Garden early, eager to explore the displays and purchase popular plants, particularly orchids. At the opening ceremony, Director General Pedro Suárez highlighted the event’s 19-year history, emphasizing its role in fostering plant care knowledge and environmental education. He anticipates surpassing last year’s attendance of approximately 15,000 visitors.
The festival features a full program of activities from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including workshops on Kokedama techniques, urban and educational gardening, bonsai art, flower arrangement, and crafts for children using natural elements. Free talks and workshops cover topics such as environmental conservation, the protection of native and endemic flora, ornamental plant production, and pest and disease management.
