Commercial sector urges adherence to building standards regardless of nationality

Santo Domingo.- Ten trade associations representing hundreds of companies in the formal commercial sector have issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to strict compliance with Dominican building regulations to ensure the structural integrity of commercial establishments and the safety of consumers.

The coalition expressed support for the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVED) and other authorities in strengthening oversight and control mechanisms for commercial buildings. They also urged businesses, developers, contractors, engineers, architects, and local authorities to uphold the highest standards of compliance.

“Compliance with building regulations is not only a legal obligation but also essential for consumer safety, business competitiveness, and collective well-being,” the coalition stated.

Participating organizations include Fedocamaras, FDC, Codopyme, ANI, Adoimfe, ONEC, Asecensa, Anamara, Ancodomu, and UNE. They emphasized that the commercial sector drives economic development, job creation, and urban transformation, but growth must be accompanied by full adherence to legal and technical building standards.

The associations highlighted that regulations, designed by qualified academic and technical experts, ensure structural security, protection of human life, and continuity of services, regardless of natural events or structural aging. Compliance applies to all establishments and protects customers irrespective of nationality.

Finally, the coalition stressed that adhering to building regulations is critical to protecting life, preserving public trust, and ensuring fair competition within the commercial sector.

Wish they wrote something in the article that ties nationality into the adherence of building standards. Are there different standards for nationalities?
