External Source

The Ministry of Energy and Mines reported that the 80 workers who were trapped underground following a landslide in a tunnel at the Dominican Mining Corporation (Cormidom) operation have safely escaped.

According to the report, all 80 workers were initially isolated underground, but no injuries or communication interruptions occurred. The collapse took place Tuesday morning at the Cerro de Maimón project, where copper and zinc are extracted. The first group of workers exited at 3:21 p.m., and the last group followed at 4:30 p.m. the same day.

Cormidom stated that once the stability of the rock massif is confirmed, a thorough investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the incident and to implement any necessary corrective measures.
