UPDATE: Tropical Storm Melissa triggers red alert in 11 provinces, 5 on green
Santo Domingo.- The COE (Emergency Operations Center) keeps 11 provinces and the National District under red alert, 11 under yellow, and has raised 5 to green, due to Tropical Storm Melissa, the 13th of the 2025 hurricane season. As of around 5:00 a.m., the storm was located approximately 385 kilometers southwest of Port-au-Prince (Haiti) and 270 kilometers southeast of Kingston (Jamaica), moving northwest at 6 km/h.
It has maximum sustained winds of about 110 km/h with higher gusts and is forecast to become a hurricane in the coming hours.

Authorities urge residents to avoid crossing rivers, streams, and ravines with high water levels in the provinces under alert. Likewise, along the Caribbean coast, operators of small and medium-sized vessels are advised to remain in port due to abnormal winds and waves, as well as heavy rains, thunderstorms, and reduced visibility. Meanwhile, along the Atlantic coast, vessels may navigate cautiously near the shoreline but should avoid venturing offshore.
