Operations resumed after smoke forced evacuation at Las Américas Airport
Santo Domingo.- Operations at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) returned to normal on Tuesday afternoon, November 11, after a brief evacuation at Terminal B due to smoke detected in the arrivals corridor.
According to Luis José López, spokesperson for Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), emergency teams responded immediately, evacuating passengers and personnel as a precaution while the cause was investigated. The source of the smoke was traced to a faulty lamp inside an air conditioning unit, which caused smoke to circulate through the ventilation system.
Authorities confirmed that no fire occurred and that there were no injuries or material damages. Once the situation was under control, airport operations resumed without delays or disruptions to domestic or international flights. Aerodom emphasized its commitment to passenger safety and praised the swift response of the airport’s emergency teams.
