Legendary Águilas Cibaeñas narrator Mendy López honored in Santiago

Santiago de los Caballeros.- The remains of Mendy López, the iconic voice of the Águilas Cibaeñas, will be displayed this Monday at the Blandino Funeral Home in Santiago, allowing family, friends, and fans to bid their final farewell. López, 84, passed away at Clínica Unión Médica del Norte after complications from a stroke suffered last Thursday. Despite undergoing two surgeries, his condition worsened, leaving the Dominican baseball community in mourning.

Rubén Santana, responsible for the funeral arrangements, confirmed that all necessary preparations are being made for the transfer of López’s body. The legendary narrator dedicated nearly 40 years to bringing the excitement of baseball into Dominican homes through radio broadcasts.

Known for his passion and charisma, López was honored by the Águilas Cibaeñas, who named their broadcast booth after him in recognition of his legacy. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void in sports commentary, but his influence and unmistakable voice will forever remain in the hearts of baseball fans.
