Santo Domingo.- King Felipe VI of Spain awarded Dominican singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra the Commandery of the Royal Order of Isabel la Católica in a ceremony at the Spanish embassy. The event was attended by Dominican President Luis Abinader and First Lady Raquel Arbaje.
Spanish Ambassador Antonio Pérez-Hernández highlighted Guerra as a global ambassador of Dominican culture and a major Latin American figure. He praised the artist’s international influence, social commitment, and deep ties to Spain, where he remains one of the most beloved Latin musicians. The award recognizes Guerra’s role in promoting the Spanish language and strengthening cultural ties between Spain and the Dominican Republic.
Upon receiving the honor, Guerra expressed gratitude, reminiscing about his artistic journey in Spain and his connections with Spanish artists like Alejandro Sanz, Serrat, and Sabina. He dedicated the award to his wife, children, manager, band, and fans. The ceremony was attended by government ministers, family members, and distinguished figures from various sectors.
