Juan Manuel Méndez honored in New York for leadership during Jet Set tragedy

New York.- New York State Senator Luis Sepúlveda honored Juan Manuel Méndez García, director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the Directorate of Extra-Hospital Emergency Services (DAEH), for his outstanding leadership during the Jet Set nightclub tragedy on April 8. Sepúlveda praised Méndez’s swift coordination and dedication, stating that his actions not only saved lives but also exemplified public service and compassion.

During the recognition ceremony, the senator highlighted Méndez’s long-standing commitment to emergency response, especially during times of crisis, describing him as a figure worthy of respect and admiration. Méndez received the award on behalf of his entire team, expressing gratitude to God, his eight children, President Luis Abinader, and all emergency personnel who supported the response efforts.

In his remarks, Méndez called on members of the COE and DAEH to remain dedicated to serving with humanity and commitment, emphasizing that these values should be central in handling emergencies. He also asked the public to continue praying for the families affected by the tragedy.
