Juan Soto confirms he’ll play for Dominican Republic in 2026 World Baseball Classic

New York.- Star outfielder Juan Soto has confirmed he will play for the Dominican Republic in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, reaffirming his commitment to the national team during a press conference in New York. The event also marked his introduction as the new brand ambassador for Banco de Reservas (Banreservas).

“I’m 100% committed to representing my country, as long as I’m healthy and my team supports it,” said Soto, who now plays for the New York Mets. He shared that he’s in regular contact with the Dominican Baseball Federation and Albert Pujols, who will manage the team in the upcoming tournament.

As Banreservas ambassador, Soto will help promote social and educational programs for young and professional athletes, aiming to support sports development and financial inclusion in underserved communities.

Soto’s announcement follows his historic US$765 million contract with the Mets—the largest in Major League Baseball history, with potential to reach US$800 million through incentives—further solidifying his influence both on and off the field in the lead-up to the 2026 tournament.
