Abinader named “Municipalist Personality” at Juan Pablo Duarte Awards

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader received the “Municipalist Personality” award during the 10th edition of the Juan Pablo Duarte Awards, in recognition of his efforts to strengthen local governments in the Dominican Republic. The ceremony took place at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the National Theater, gathering municipal leaders, lawmakers, and community representatives to honor Duarte’s vision of decentralized governance.

In his speech, Abinader expressed gratitude but emphasized that more can be done to support municipalities. He announced an upcoming plan focused on paving roads and constructing sidewalks and curbs, aiming to enhance infrastructure and living conditions in local districts.

The president also urged the approval of the Social Security Fund for Municipalities and Districts by the National Congress. He stressed that it is unjust for retired mayors to lack basic healthcare support after years of public service.
