Tragic accident in Maimón leaves one dead and one injured

Young Dae Pea, known as “El Chino”

On Saturday morning, a traffic accident on the Maimón section of the Puerto Plata-Imbert highway left one person dead and another injured.

The fatal victim was identified as Young Dae Pea, known as “El Chino,” a businessman of Chinese origin and Dominican nationality and owner of a hardware store in Puerto Plata.

The private vehicle driver, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was taken to a local hospital for medical attention.

Details of the accident According to preliminary reports, “El Chino” was riding a high-powered motorcycle when he attempted to pass, causing a head-on collision with a tourist bus traveling in the opposite direction.

Ongoing investigations

Authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the details of the incident. The General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transport Safety (Digesett) reported that the accident occurred shortly after 9:15 a.m. in front of the Villa Flor cabin in Maimón.

Road safety warning: Digesett also specified that the fatal victim was traveling at high speed without a helmet, highlighting the importance of taking precautions when riding motorcycles.
