ISFODOSU honors faculty with awards for teaching and research excellence

Santo Domingo.- In a ceremony held to mark National Teacher’s Day, the Salomé Ureña Higher Institute of Teacher Training (ISFODOSU) recognized ten of its most dedicated professors for their long service, outstanding teaching and pioneering research. The third annual presentation of the Eugenio María de Hostos Award for research distinction and the Salomé Ureña Award for teaching excellence was the highlight of the evening.

Dr. Nurys del Carmen González, rector of ISFODOSU, opened the proceedings by congratulating the faculty on their “unwavering commitment to continuous improvement” and their “collaborative efforts in rolling out the institute’s new Professorial Career track,” now supported by a comprehensive Faculty Management Manual. She explained that recipients had been selected according to the institute’s official awards protocol, which evaluates scholarly output, pedagogical innovation and years of service.

Ten professors—two from each of ISFODOSU’s five campus locations—received tenure buttons marking milestones of 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years. Following that recognition, five researchers and five teachers were singled out:

Awardees were judged on the number of published articles and books, as well as the volume and impact of their research projects.

Selection criteria included academic qualifications, institutional tenure, evaluation scores and development of teaching materials.

Professor Luisa Acosta, director of Professional Development, noted that ISFODOSU is preparing its first open competition for entry into the new Professorial Career track—a move she said “will strengthen our faculty’s professional growth and ensure the highest standards of education.”

The ceremony brought together ISFODOSU’s executive team, including Vice‑Rector Dr. Carmen Gálvez (Academic Affairs), Professor Andrea Paz (Research and Graduate Studies), Professor Milta Lora (Innovation and Development) and Dr. Aida Roca (Administration), as well as campus directors and board members Thelma Camarena and Pedro Agüero.
