IRONMAN 70.3 returns to Cap Cana

Cap Cana.- Cap Cana will host the second edition of the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon this Sunday, May 4, welcoming over 1,000 athletes and more than 6,000 national and international spectators. This major sporting event positions the Dominican Republic as a key destination for sports tourism, particularly in the areas of wellness and diversified travel.

To accommodate the race, sections of the Coral Highway’s southbound lanes and Thed Keel Avenue will be closed from 3:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., as authorized by INTRANT, MOPC, the National Police, DIGESETT, Politur, and Comipol. These routes will serve as part of the triathlon’s 90 km (56 mi) cycling course.

Athletes will complete a 1.9 km (1.2 mi) ocean swim, a 90 km bike ride through Cap Cana and the national highway, and a 21.1 km (13.1 mi) run ending at Juanillo Beach near the Dreams Hotel. Their stay—typically around five days—supports the local economy through lodging, transportation, and tourism-related spending.
