Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia to attend Trump inauguration

Costa Rica.- Edmundo González Urrutia, recognized by several nations as Venezuela’s president-elect, will attend Donald Trump’s inauguration as U.S. president on Monday in Washington. Currently based in Costa Rica, González Urrutia has been actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to garner international support for restoring democracy in Venezuela.
In recent weeks, he met with Presidents Javier Milei of Argentina, Luis Lacalle Pou of Uruguay, and Santiago Peña of Paraguay to discuss strategies addressing Venezuela’s crisis and the regional impact of Nicolás Maduro’s regime. González emphasized the importance of bipartisan U.S. support, stating, “Our policy has always been to work with both parties to ensure a solid and swift path to democracy in Venezuela.”
Earlier this month, González had a productive meeting with outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden, during which Biden reaffirmed his commitment to Venezuela’s democratic cause. While in Washington, González will also meet Michael Waltz, Trump’s incoming National Security Advisor, to discuss intensifying international pressure on the Maduro regime. His visit aims to strengthen global backing for a democratic transition in Venezuela.
