Zoe Saldaña earns Oscar nomination for ‘Emilia Pérez’

Los Angeles.- Dominican-born actress Zoe Saldaña has received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her captivating role in the narco-musical ‘Emilia Pérez’, which was announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this Thursday.
She will compete against fellow nominees Monica Barbaro (‘A Complete Unknown’), Ariana Grande (‘Wicked’), Felicity Jones (‘The Brutalist’), and Isabella Rossellini (‘Conclave’). The winner will be revealed during the gala on March 2 in Los Angeles.
In ‘Emilia Pérez’, directed by French filmmaker Jacques Audiard, Saldaña portrays a weary lawyer who is presented with an enticing proposal from ‘Manitas’, the leader of a Mexican cartel: to assist him in faking his death to pursue a more genuine life. The film blends suspense, comedy, and drama while incorporating musical elements to tackle pressing social issues like trans activism, femicides, drug trafficking, corruption, and the plight of missing persons in Mexico.
Saldaña’s performance in the film has already earned her recognition, including her first Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress on January 5 and a nomination for the prestigious BAFTA awards, celebrating excellence in British cinema.
Hope she wins the Oscar. Go Zoe!
Saldana was born in Passaic, New Jersey. Her father was Dominican while her mother is Puerto Rican. Saldana also has Lebanese and Haitian roots.
Zoe has stated that she is 3/4 (75%) Dominican.
Just being nominated is prize enough, hoping she gets the Oscar.
